# 4 Steps to Ensure Compliance

### Overview

This guide explains the main setup steps for **Pandectes GDPR Compliance** after installation.

Follow these steps to connect Shopify Customer Privacy settings, enable the app embed, configure the banner, and add the required privacy pages.

### Before you start

Make sure you have installed the [Pandectes GDPR Compliance app](https://apps.shopify.com/gdpr-cookie-consent) from the Shopify App Store.

### Setup steps

The setup includes four main steps:

1. Sync Shopify Customer Privacy settings
2. Enable the Pandectes app embed
3. Configure banner behavior
4. Add privacy and data request pages

### Step 1: Sync Shopify Customer Privacy settings

To avoid showing two cookie banners, remove Shopify’s default cookie banner when Pandectes is used as your consent banner.

1. In Shopify admin, go to **Settings**.
2. Select **Customer Privacy**.
3. Click **Cookie Banner**.
4. Confirm that **Pandectes GDPR Compliance** appears under installed privacy apps.
5. Click **Remove cookie banner**.

### Step 2: Enable the app embed

The app embed allows the Pandectes banner to load on your storefront.

1. In Shopify admin, go to **Online Store > Themes**.
2. Click **Customize** on your live theme.
3. Open **App embeds** from the left toolbar.
4. Find **Pandectes Core**.
5. Turn it **ON**.
6. Click **Save**.

### Step 3: Configure banner behavior

Open the **Pandectes GDPR Compliance** app from your Shopify admin.

Go to **Settings > Banner > Layout** and configure the banner based on the version your store is using.

###### New banner version

The new banner uses consent models and regional rules instead of predefined banner types.

###### Legacy banner version

For the legacy banner, select the **Banner Type** that matches your consent setup.

Use **Preferences** if you want visitors to manage consent by cookie category.

### Step 4: Add privacy and data request pages

Visitors should be able to read your privacy information and manage data-related requests.

###### A) Link your Privacy Policy

Your banner should include a link to your [Privacy Policy](/en/article/what-is-a-privacy-policy-1evh5sl/) page.

If you do not have one, follow this guide: [Create a Privacy Policy page](/en/article/create-a-privacy-policy-page-1mqb1ep/).

To add the link:

1. Go to **Settings > Banner > Content**.
2. Find the **Links** section.
3. Select your privacy policy page.

Use a relative path, such as `/pages/privacy-policy`, if your store uses multiple domains or languages.

###### B) Add the Customer Data Requests page

The Customer Data Requests page lets visitors submit data-related requests from your storefront.
