4 Steps to Ensure Compliance (New Version)
Introduction
Welcome to Pandectes. This guide provides a structured walkthrough to configure your store for GDPR and global privacy regulation requirements.
Prerequisite: Ensure you have already installed the Pandectes GDPR Compliance app from the Shopify App Store.
Setup Overview
To configure your store, we will walk through four key milestones:
- Remove Shopify’s native cookie banner
- Activate the App Embed
- Configure Consent Model & Regions
- Deploy Privacy Policy & Data Request pages
Step 1: Remove Shopify Customer Privacy Banner
To avoid conflicts between Shopify's native banner and Pandectes, the Shopify banner should be disabled.
- Navigate to Settings in your Shopify Admin dashboard.
- Select Customer Privacy from the left sidebar.
- Click Cookie Banner.
- Verify that Pandectes GDPR Compliance appears under installed privacy apps.
- Click Remove cookie banner.
This ensures Pandectes becomes the only consent interface controlling visitor privacy choices.

Step 2: Enable App Embed
For the banner to appear on your storefront, you must enable the App Embed inside your Shopify theme.
- From Shopify Admin, go to Online Store > Themes.
- Click Edit Theme on your live theme.
- In the left sidebar, click the App embeds icon.
- Locate Pandectes Core in the list.
- Toggle it ON.
- Click Save.

Once enabled, the Pandectes banner will be able to load on your storefront.
Step 3: Configure Consent Model & Regions
The new banner version manages consent behavior through Consent Model & Regions, replacing the older regional settings previously configured inside Shopify.
- Open the Pandectes GDPR Compliance app from your Shopify admin.
- Navigate to Settings > Consent Model & Regions.

For stores serving visitors in Europe, we recommend using:
Strict opt-in / GDPR
This ensures visitors must explicitly consent before non-essential cookies are activated.
You can keep Worldwide visibility enabled, allowing the banner to apply the appropriate consent logic globally.
Step 4: Privacy Policy & Data Request Pages
Transparency is a key requirement of GDPR and similar privacy regulations. Visitors must have access to clear privacy information and the ability to manage their personal data.
A) Link Your Privacy Policy
Your banner should always include a link to your Privacy Policy.
If you do not already have one, you can create one by following our guide here:
To add the link:
- Go to Settings > Banner > Content.
- Scroll to the Links section.
- Select your Privacy Policy page from the dropdown menu.

Pro Tip: If your store uses multiple domains or languages, use a relative path such as:
/pages/privacy-policy
This ensures the link works correctly across localized versions of your store.
B) Deploy the Customer Data Requests Page
Under regulations such as GDPR and CCPA/CPRA, visitors have rights related to their personal data.
These include:
- The Right to Access
- The Right to be Forgotten
You should provide a dedicated page where visitors can submit these requests.
Follow our guide here to deploy this page:
