Migration Guide: Recreating your Legacy Look in New Version

In the transition from Legacy to New Version, we moved away from "Hard-coded Modes" to a Modular System. This gives you more control, but it means the names of some settings have changed.

1. The "Banner Type" Mapping

In Legacy, you chose a "Banner Type" to set the logic. In the New Version, you set the logic in the Consent Model and the look in Layout.

If you used Legacy Mode...

Use this New Version Layout & Logic...

Informative

Layout: Cookie Notice (Simple) + Consent Model: Opt-out

Accept/Decline

Layout: Cookie Notice (Simple) + Buttons: Show "Accept-Decline"

Preferences

Layout: Cookie notice & Preferences center

TCF Banner

Layout: Preferences only + Advanced: Enable TCF v2.3

The new version uses contextual positioning. Here is how to find your old "sweet spot":

  • For the "Bar at Bottom":
    • Select Layout > Cookie notice > Dialog: Bar.
    • Under Position, select Bottom.
  • For the "Classic Popup" (Center):
    • Select Layout > Cookie notice > Dialog: Box.
    • Under Position, select Center.
  • For the "Floating Bottom Right":
    • Select Layout > Cookie notice > Dialog: Box.
    • Under Position, select Bottom/Right.
    • Pro Tip: Go to Style > Windows and toggle Floating to give it that modern "hovering" look.

3. Upgrading your Branding (Style Tab)

New Version offers much deeper styling. If you’re moving from Legacy Version, try these new features:

  • Auto-AI Coloring: Instead of manually typing HEX codes, click Auto adjust theme in the Style tab. Our AI will scan your Shopify theme and match the colors for you.
  • Button Styles: You can now make your "Accept" button Solid and your "Decline" button Bordered (Ghost button) to guide user behavior - Legacy Version didn't allow this level of detail.

4. The "Re-open Widget"

It is now the Consent Widget.

  • In the Legacy Version, it was a simple button. In the New Version, it is a fully interactive "Choices" menu.
  • To get the V1 look, go to Layout > Consent widget options and set the Position to your previous corner (e.g., Bottom/Left).
  • New Power: You can now flip the buttons inside the widget specifically, independent of the main banner.

5. Final Checklist for the New Version Success

  1. Check your Buttons: The New Version allows you to "Reverse order." If your Accept button is on the wrong side, just toggle the switch!
  2. Verify Regions: The New Version is synced with your Shopify Customer Privacy API. Make sure your "Consent Model & Regions" page shows "Worldwide" or your specific laws (GDPR/CCPA).
  3. Preview in Dark Mode: Use the new previewer on the right to see how your banner looks for customers using "Dark Mode" on their phones.
