Understanding Consent Models and Regional Behavior
How to Configure Consent Model & Regions
Overview
This article explains how to configure the Consent model & regions directly inside the Pandectes GDPR Compliance app.
The new setup reflects current Shopify behavior and allows you to control banner visibility and data collection without leaving the app.
It is intended for merchants who want to manage regional consent rules in a single place.
How It Works
Pandectes now connects directly with Shopify Customer Privacy settings through Shopify’s Customer Privacy API.
This means:
- You no longer need to disable Shopify’s banner manually
- You no longer need to configure regions in Shopify Admin
- All consent logic is managed from Pandectes → Settings → Consent model & regions
Any change you make in this section is automatically applied to Shopify’s Customer Privacy framework.

Key Points to Understand
- Pandectes controls both banner visibility and consent enforcement
- Shopify Customer Privacy settings are updated automatically
- Consent behavior can differ per region
- This does not guarantee legal compliance; it only controls technical behavior
Accessing Consent Model & Regions
- Open your Shopify Admin
- Go to Apps → Pandectes GDPR
- Navigate to Settings
- Select Consent model & regions

Consent Model Options
You can select one of the following consent models:
Strict opt-in / GDPR
- No analytics or marketing data is collected until the visitor explicitly accepts
- Required for regions where prior consent is expected (e.g. EU/EEA, UK)
- Recommended when you want a conservative setup
Standard opt-out / CCPA
- Data collection starts immediately
- Visitors are given a clear option to decline
- Commonly used for US-focused stores
Auto-pilot / Geotargeting
- Pandectes detects the visitor’s location
- Applies opt-in behavior for EU/EEA & UK
- Applies opt-out behavior for regions like the US
- Recommended for stores with global traffic
Custom configuration
- Advanced setups where regions and rules are fully customized
- Intended for experienced merchants or agency-managed stores
Regions Visibility
This section controls where the banner is shown.
You can:
- Enable Worldwide visibility
- Or manually select specific regions and countries
The list includes regions grouped by applicable privacy frameworks, such as:
- EU/EEA & UK
- United States
- Canada
- Switzerland
- Brazil
- Japan
- Australia
- And others
Each region can have its own consent behavior depending on the selected model.

What Happens in Shopify
When you save your settings:
- Pandectes updates Shopify Customer Privacy configuration automatically
- Shopify uses Pandectes as the active consent manager
- No additional configuration is required in Shopify Admin
There is no need to:
- Remove Shopify’s default banner manually
- Toggle Shopify automated settings
- Reconfirm regions inside Shopify
Summary
The Consent model & regions section is now the single source of truth for regional consent behavior in Pandectes.
All configuration is handled inside the app and automatically synced with Shopify Customer Privacy.
